The Wellfleet OysterFest is an annual celebration of the town s famous oysters, clams and its deep-rooted shellfishing traditions. Wellfleet s town center comes alive for this two-day family festival that brings together locals and visitors for a weekend full of food, art, music, fun and games. The Fest happens annually the weekend after Columbus Day.

Great Island Trail is a 4.8 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Wellfleet, MA that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
This mostly shaded loop, great on a hot day, explores one of the Cape s few remaining stands of Atlantic white cedar, located on the former site of Camp Wellfleet, a U.S. Army base. Trailside markers identify many of the common plants, and you ll probably get to see and hear some forest birds as well. The swamp usually has standing water, so bring mosquito repellent.
On January 18, 1903, Marconi staged another world s first (and a bit of a media event) by successfully transmitting messages between the President Theodore Roosevelt and King Edward VI the King of England. With rapid advances in technology, the station became outdated in a matter of a few years, and was replaced by a newer station in Chatham, Massachusetts. Over the decades, Cape Cod National Seashore has interpreted this significant story to visitors through exhibits and radio events, including some in the vicinity of the site from which that original message was sent.
